A system will move across the region Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Warmer air aloft and colder air trapped at the surface spells the threat for icing, particularly along Interstate 90 and the lakeshore.
Generally less than one tenth-of an inch of freezing rain is likely.
While we’ve had a break from the serious cold that hit the area last week, the ground remains frozen. Any freeing rain will quickly accumulate on colder surfaces and objects. Untreated roads, especially secondary, less-traveled, and bridges and overpasses, will become icy.
Any freezing rain will turn over to plain rain by Wednesday mid-morning, as temperatures rise above freezing.
